Want to change the world? Start by making your bed
Small habits to grow toward your goals…and maybe change your life.
Everyone wants to change the world, but how can you change the world if you can’t change a habit? US Navy Admiral William H. McRaven wrote a book on the topic called Make Your Bed: Small Things to Change Your Life…And Maybe The World. McRaven discusses how making your bed every morning sets you up for success.
The idea is this:
Making your bed creates a feeling of accomplishment first thing in the morning, making it a catalyst for maintaining a positive mindset and mood — for the rest of the day.
Fulfilling the first task builds a sense of pride, which is associated with a positive feeling. The more tasks you accomplish, the better you feel.
Before you know it, one task turns into many, making you feel more and more productive.
It also reinforces the idea that the small details matter, because if you can’t do the little things well, then how are you gonna be able to do the big things?
Making your bed every morning assures that even if you come home from a miserable day, you will always come home to a made bed. Bringing back the feelings of accomplishment and helping you regain a more positive mindset. This way you will never go to bed angry.
And ensuring you will have a good night's sleep.
The next day, the cycle continues…
When you’re happy — you’re healthy.
After all, you spend most of your life in your head — you might as well make it a nice place to be.
Taking simple actions like making your bed, is the key to improving your mindset. Naturally, this creates a sense of internal peace in your internal mind, which will affect your external world.
So whether you’re aiming to be your own boss, a doctor, a writer, or a lawyer start taking simple steps to set up your path toward success. As McRaven puts it:
“In life, nothing matters but your will to succeed”.
